You know you are when you
1. Do or say something that does not truly reflect your wants and needs, in order to please someone else.
2. Are afraid that no one will like you, that someone will leave you, or that you will be left all alone if you don't say the right thing.
3. Expect to anticipate, and to mold yourself to, everyone else's needs and learn that the only way to receive a positive response was to do what others wanted you to do.
4. Have low self-esteem.
I realised that Asians being a collectivist society are very prone to be people pleasers. They don't speak up. They don't dare to offend and they don't dare to be different. Perhaps that's why the general English-educated kids find it hard to blend in the Chinese-educated kids.
Western culture fosters an individualistic society. People try to differentiate themselves from the rest. i.e.: the cool factor. Whereas the Eastern culture fosters collectivism. People tend to be "peace-y" and try to blend in so not to be regarded like a black sheep.
Probably that's why Westerners (Americans esp), make better marketeers.
Simplified: Westerners see the pretty swan whereas the Asians see an ugly duckling instead.
Disclaimer: Of course, they are definitely those are in betweens.
here, Wikihow on How not to be a people pleaser! haha!
